MoldHawkMOLD INSPECTION & TESTING
LEARNING CENTER / MOLD TYPES

Read the name.
Keep the context.

A mold name is one part of a specimen result. The analytical method, collection location and property observations give it meaning.

Cladosporium

One of the common indoor mold names identified by CDC. Interpret a finding with the specimen location and the inspection context.

Aspergillus and Penicillium

These names may appear as a grouped microscopy category. A group does not establish an exact species.

Stachybotrys

A reported identification does not prove that a mycotoxin was measured. Appearance alone is not a reliable way to identify a specimen.

Groups, fragments and limits

Some reports list grouped categories, fragments or unidentified structures. Check what the specific method can resolve.
